The final of the Shanter Trophy saw Carmunnock and Rutherglen play Giffnock Curling Club on 22 March 2018.

It was a tight game.
C&R made a good start but failed to capitalise on an opportunity to take a 3 and had to settle for a 1 as the last stone sailed through the head. This set a pattern for the game.
Giffnock roared back with a 4 in the second end. Not to be outdone C&R immediately countered with a 4 of their own.
After this things tightened up as play became cautious on the tricky ice that demanded precise weight to make shots reach their target. C&R managed to steal a 2 to put some distance on the scoreboard.
Then a crucial 5th end in which a resurgent Giffnock took the initiative after some slack play by the leaders and a bunched head gave up a 3 to tie the scoreboard.
With the last stone C&R took a 1 at the next and went into what was the last end without last stone.
It took some time to finish but some deft guarding protected a C&R counter in the head to leave Giffnock with few options and the game was over.

Province Royalty - i.e Committee spectators added to the occasion and ensured everyone was on their best behaviour - well almost everyone!
